It wasn’t too long ago that I asked you what your favorite book was from your childhood. Now I would love to know: What is your favorite book as an adult?
See, for me, this question is a bit tough. I actually have two favorite book SERIES. Though I read a lot of different books, these two series are books that I can read again and again.
The first series is all the Harry Potter books. I can’t help it – I just love them! These books definitely aren’t just for kids. J.K. Rowling is one of my all time favorite authors. Her imagination is off the charts and her writing skills are masterful. But the story of Harry and his friends totally captivates me each time I read one of the 7 books in the series. Now, in the series, my favorite book (and favorite HP movie) is “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”.
The next series I adore is the “Twilight Saga” series. Yes, I get teased about this all the time. I loved all the “Twilight” books and think Stephanie Meyer did such wonderful work writing about the world of vampires and love. I even would like to go to Forks, WA one day!
But there is a bit more to this story. You see, for years, I had given up on reading. I probably didn’t pick up a book for at least 15 years or more! I was working two jobs, raising a daughter with multiple birth defects and dealing with my own set of diagnoses from 10 different doctors. My daughter happened to be in the hospital the day the final book in the series – “Breaking Dawn” – was released. My mom brought it to her in the hospital and it helped her to escape what was going on around her.
Once she was back home, I happened to be watching TV and saw a commercial for a new movie that was coming out soon called “Twilight”. It looked interesting so I asked my daughter about it and she said emphatically: “That’s the books I’ve been trying to get you to read!” She promptly let me borrow the whole series and for the first time in many years, I set down to read. I finished all 4 books in two weeks and was once again hooked on reading as I had been as a little girl. So reading the “Twilight” books brought the gift of reading back into my life. That’s why sometimes I have to pinch myself that I now write books! It certainly wasn’t on my radar back then!
What are your favorite books? I would love to know. You might even introduce me to someone new! Just leave your comments below.
