Animals in the wild!
As you can probably tell, I’m an animal lover. I’m fortunate to live within the city limits but next to the river on a large piece of land. And it seems we have an influx of all kinds of animals from deer, bobcats, alligators, coyote, owls, hawks, foxes and much more. So when I saw the above question in a list of writing prompts at first, I wasn’t sure what my answer would be, but it didn’t take long for I knew the answer. The animal I would like to see in its natural habitat is the whale.
With my love of the ocean, I’ve been lucky to see many sea creatures up close: sea turtles, dolphins, sharks, barracuda, manatees and more. But I’ve never seen a whale in the wild.
Lately, there have been some videos that have made the rounds on social media showing whale excursions where the visitors have positively received their money’s worth: whales coming so close to the boat that they could practically touch the mammal! Or the one video where the whale breaches the surface and almost lands on top of the vessel! These magnificent creatures seem so gentle even though their size is usually massive.
Though we have whales that travel up and down the East Coast, whale watching is mainly a West Coast adventure with the exceptions being some whale watching around the Cape Cod area. Hopefully, during our next trip out west, we can make one of our excursions a whale watching day. Just the thought of that is beyond exciting.
So what animal would you like to see in its natural habitat? Let me know in the comments!
