Can you believe that November is here? We are officially in the holiday season with Thanksgiving only three weeks away and Christmas soon after. This year has practically flown by!
Some time ago, every November, I would post on social media something that I was thankful for each day of the month. I haven’t done this in a while and wanted to bring back my little personal tradition this year but with a “little” twist.
About a month ago, I told you about a book I loved called “Girl, Wash Your Face” by Rachel Hollis. I’ve been following Rachel and her husband, Dave, for a while now and they have something that they do every day called “Five to Thrive”. These are five things that you do daily that help you mentally and physically be your best self. One of the five is to write down ten things you are grateful for each day. TEN! If you did this for only thirty days and didn’t repeat an item, you would have THREE HUNDRED THINGS you were grateful for in a month’s time. Wow! By looking for ten things each day, it challenges you to look at not only those big things we are aware of like family, friends, etc. but also the small things we often don’t think about.
So for Day One of my “Thankful Today For…” I’m going to list a small item that most might find comical: my warm, soft, fuzzy blankets. I LOVE blankets and have them all over the house. When we go on trips, I have a few I take with me. I even have my little Emma spoiled with her own soft blankets that line her open sleeping crate. Sometimes I’ll peer into her crate and only see two little eyes and ears because she has burrowed down into her blanket.
You might say, “You’re grateful for a blanket?” You bet! For me, they are relaxing, warm and just feel good. I can use them for a pillow, fold them to use on my lap to put my computer or iPad on for and work and more. I just never realized how much I used my blankets till I didn’t have one with me not too long ago when we were off somewhere. I could have used a pillow for sure. I’m grateful that I’m even able to buy and have a blanket, something that some people can’t do. So, as silly as it sounds, I’m grateful for my stash of soft, warm, fuzzy, cozy blankets.
I used this for my first “Thankful” day to show you to look for the little things around you. I have so many more items (big and small) but I’ll be sharing them in the coming days. I hope that you’ll join me this month as I (we) look for the things we are so grateful to have in our lives.
