As you can probably tell by now, I love the Florida Keys. Don’t get me wrong – I love my hometown of Charleston, SC but some of my favorite getaway spots are nestled among these tiny chain of islands. This is where the awesome Seven Mile Bridge is!
The Seven Mile Bridge begins just as you leave Marathon and goes for 6.8 miles. So maybe that’s not exactly seven miles but rounding up is ok. JThe view from the bridge, no matter which side you look to, is just stunning. You can see the vibrant colors of different shades of clear aqua water. There are small islands, some uninhabited and others where you see homes. I guess these people truly have their own private island – how cool!
For me, the whole time I’m on the bridge, it really doesn’t feel like 7 miles. It goes by so fast for me because of scenery. I love the ocean, the beach, the bright colors, the wildlife – this bridge gives me great views of it all.
In my novels, I’ve mentioned the bridge several times. In my latest Florida Keys Novel – “A Wedding in the Keys” – Chase and Bailey actually go to the Sunset Grill that is located on Knight’s Key, just at the base of the bridge as you are leaving Marathon Key. I love being able to use real places in my novels and if you ever get a chance to go to Sunset Grill, make sure it’s actually at sunset. You won’t be disappointed.
There is lots of history around the 7 Mile Bridge so I’ve provided a link to give you more information. Click here for more interesting facts. Just know that when you go to the Keys, I have a feeling you are going to love this bridge as much as I do.
Take care and big hugs!
The views are stunning from the Seven Mile Bridge!
