“Thankful November” Day 14: A Roof Over Our Heads
Yes, it’s been another rainy day here in Charleston with temperatures hovering in the 50’s. Have to say I love it but there are plenty of homeless people that are just trying to find a place to stay warm. So on this 14th Day of “Thankful November”, I’m so grateful for our home.
I’ve been incredibly blessed that for my entire life, I’ve had a place to live. A real place with walls, roof, floors, and doors. I honestly can’t imagine what it would be like not to have a place to come home to that is safe and secure. To live in the woods or sleep on a park bench at night or have to pitch a tent under a bridge to get some sleep. I’ve worked with the homeless, and I’m always grateful after I see what they do to survive.
There is a gentleman that lives in a tent in the woods behind the drugstore where we get our medication. I’ve talked to the people at the store, and they tell me he’s really nice and trying to make a living so he can have a real roof over his head. From what I can tell, they help him a lot with food and such which I think is fantastic.
I’m hoping this holiday season to make some items that will go to the homeless like I try to do each year. But this time, I might have to do something special for this man living behind the store. I know every time I go by there, I always wonder what I can do. Plus, it reminds me again how blessed I am to have our home. That we can stay dry in wet weather. We can be warm in the winter or cool in the summer. So grateful.
So what are you thankful for today?
