I feel so blessed to have such a large family. Plus, we live close to each other and that is a wonderful benefit too!
Though I’m an only child, my parents came from rather large families: my mom had 12 siblings and my dad has 11. I have 47 first cousins! And you should see our family reunions – what a party.
We love celebrating and having fun but when hard times roll around, it’s nice to have family by your side. As you might know from earlier posts, my parents have been sick with a nasty respiratory illness but they are finally on the mend. But around 3am this past Monday morning, Jeff woke me to go to the emergency room – totally not my husband. He woke up in horrible pain and we found out he has two kidney stones. One has passed and one still to go but now he is doing well.
As soon as my parents found out, they wanted to know what they could do for us! Now they are still recuperating but were willing to help me take care of Jeff. That is family. And I’ve seen this same scenario take place with other family members, helping each other without thought to their own needs first.
I know that not everyone has this kind of family network and that is why I used the word “blessing” earlier because that it what this truly is. I’m so grateful to have supportive, loving family members around me that when things get tough or it’s time to celebrate, we’re there for each other.
So make sure to hug your family today!
