A Writer’s Journey
It may sound silly but I really wish I could write my very first novel all over again. Not that I don’t like it but I’ve learned so much over these last three years as an author and there are some things I’d change.
They say when you do something over and over you learn a new skill. That is how I feel every time I write a book, novella, story – even a blog post. What’s that saying? Practice makes perfect – well almost perfect? I’m by no means saying my novels are perfect but I’ve learned so much about writing, being an author, talking to readers, and so much more about this new world of being an author. To be able to use this knowledge to rewrite a book would be priceless.
I’ve talked to my publisher and expressed the desire to publish a revised edition of the book but we’ve all agreed, for the time being, to let the book stand as it is. It was my very first piece of fiction and even with its imperfections, it will resonate with some readers and some it won’t. And really that is with any book that is out on the shelves today. I have a friend who adores Paranormal Romances but they hold no interest to me. I love memoirs and she could care less about them. Are either of us better than the other because of our preferences? Certainly not! We all have opinions – likes and dislikes – and that’s what makes this world go round.
So my first novel – The Keys to Love– will be staying as it is for now. I can’t make any promises thought that somewhere down the road it might get an update. But for now, I’m okay with that. I hope you are too.
