As you already know I have been very interested in the wellness/self-care area for a while now for several reasons. So I’ve decided what better way to use what I’ve learned and trying to incorporate into my life by sharing it with you!
Today’s tip is called the family dinner. Sounds hokey, I know, but having family dinners are a form of self-care. The thing about this tip is it not only benefits you but everyone who attends.
A family dinner could be just you, your spouse and the kids or, if you are like my family, it is anyone who wants to show up for our once or twice month food buffets. My extended family is so large plus throw in some friends too and sometimes our dinners are quite extensive but priceless at the same time! We get to catch up on the latest with each person, share stories about the past, tell others what we are trying to achieve, maybe get some much-needed advice and more. The social aspect of these dinners is such a bonding experience that is good for your health – physically and mentally. Plus, everyone there benefits too.
Now I can’t say that the dishes prepared come from the health food store but mostly I think we do a good job at keeping it healthy. We always have several options to choose from but someone (like tonight’s dinner) will bring a goodie or two (dark chocolate brownies anyone?). But honestly the best thing isn’t the food: it’s getting together and relaxing with family and friends. There’s nothing like it!
So give yourself some self-care and schedule a friends/family dinner! Have fun! Everyone bring a dish, sit back and enjoy!
