Today I’m bringing you another self-care tip and though this might sound a bit unusual it’s a great one: go one day without complaining about ANYTHING!
You’re probably thinking: How is this a self-care tip? Well, it might sound strange but it really works wonders. When you’re not complaining you’re not bringing negative self talk into your life. You’ll look for the positive because you’ve made that commitment to not complain. You’ll find yourself looking for the good in a situation or person instead of the bad. By the end the day you’ll feel the difference – usually physically and mentally. Even if your day has been challenging the stress after effects will be less because you’ve been focusing on the good.
The reason this is a self-care tip is because you’re treating your body and mind to less stress. You’re finding ways to see the good and not focusing on that complaint that would usually be said out loud. If you really want to see and feel the effects of “no complaining” try this for a few days, a week or really go all out and try it for 30 days! I have a feeling you’re going to like it.
I tried this for 1 week. I couldn’t believe how much better I felt. At first it was difficult because I would go to say something and stop myself. I would find something positive instead. After about 3 days, I found that my body was more relaxed, situations that seemed challenging weren’t as tough to handle and the surrounding atmosphere seemed more serene. Actually, nothing around me changed – I’d made a change in myself.
Though that experiment is over, I now complain less and less. And if I see that I’m in the negative mode I snap myself out of it by either saying out loud what I’m grateful for, complimenting someone, writing in my journal my blessings or do a meditation concentrating on gratitude. Believe me – I’m not perfect but not complaining goes such a long way in helping you to be the best version of yourself.
