When I began this author journey, I had no idea what I was doing. I just got my laptop, pulled up a blank Word document and began putting the story swirling around in brain onto the screen before me.
I think I have shared this before but I was in bed that very first day when I began writing my first novel “The Keys to Love”. It was 6am and I snuggled beneath the covers and just began to write. Three hours later I figured I better get up and get dressed but I have to admit that I wanted to keep writing.
I did this for the next thirty days, writing every morning and completed the rough draft of that book. I was in bed each day. I graduated from writing in my pajamas to actually getting dressed before getting my computer but I found myself always sitting, propped up on my comfy bed. And I still do to this day.
Now I take my computer or iPad and write while I’m at other places. One of my favorite spots, as you probably already know, is the beach. I love sitting on the Folly Beach Pier at the picnic table with my computer. I feel like the ocean air invigorates me and when I need a break from the computer screen, I have a very relaxing scene before me.
I’ve also gone to local parks and even the dock on the river for writing time but I would have to say that at least 75% of writing is still while I’m sitting on my bed. I’m lucky that I have a beautiful view right our bedroom window with lots of light, green trees and a little bit of the river. I guess since this is where I began writing it just has a hold on me.
I’m setting up a writing nook in my art studio. Once it’s finished, I will be sure to share a picture or two. I think it could be as inviting as my current favorite place once I get it fixed up. The bonus is that it has a great window view too!
