Just love my furry baby!
As I share a little more of life living on the coast, I wanted to tell you more about my family – at least the ones that don’t mind me talking about them. LOL! And this little one doesn’t really have a choice. Meet my dog Emma!
You might have seen her on some of my Facebook and Instagram posts. I would post about her more often but I know not everyone wants to see everything “Emma” but I do like showing her off. She is one special dog.
I’ve had several dogs over the last years, each one special in their own way. And when one leaves us, it is heartbreaking because whether you are a dog or cat lover – or you love both – these little creatures wiggle their way right into your heart.
Emma became part of the family in 2012 and at first I wasn’t sure if I was ready for another dog. I had lost my other dog about 5 months prior and just didn’t know if the time was right but then I saw that little face. You know – those puppy faces with adoring eyes that just make you start talking silly. She is half Pomeranian and half Japanese Chin – a very odd mix but her temperament is wonderful.
Emma proved how attached she was to me one day when I had a flare of my illness. She actually found me in the bathroom by the sink where I had slid down the wall during a time I was passing out. Before I knew it, Jeff was there, helping me with the necessary medicines I needed with Emma right beside him watching. Once I was feeling better, Jeff informed me that Emma had come to my rescue by coming to get him. She did this several more times and we realized that she was tuned in to me and my health issues. She then became my certified service dog.
It amazes me that dogs can sense their owners to that degree. For Emma to know that I needed help was such a gift. There is no telling how long I would have been on that floor trying to get to my medication.
But she is also my writing companion. Almost every time I’m writing, she will curl up by my legs and snuggle. I think she likes the sound of my fingers hitting the keyboard. She ends up sleeping most of the time, maybe opening her eyes, giving me look as to say “How’s it going?” Plus, she loves the beach and the river. I knew she was special!
Do you have a special furry friend? I would love to hear about them and maybe post their picture on my Facebook page in the comments section!
