Meet “Liz” from the “Camping in High Heels” Series!

I’m so excited to “interview” someone from novels again today! It might sound goofy but I think it’s a fun way to meet the characters and give you a glimpse into the book series. And I love today’s “interview”. Meet “Liz” from the “Camping in High Heels” series.

Camping in High Heels: California, by Miki BennettMe: Hi Liz! I’m so glad we get to spend some time together today. How are you doing? How’s the RV trip been so far?

Liz: As long as I got my rocking chair and my crocheting I’m just fine.

Me: You’ve been doing a lot of traveling.

Liz: Yep! Seems we’re always on the move! Used to travel with my husband in a car with the kids, going all over the place to see the National Parks. Now I’m in this big old bus thing.

Me: You mean your daughter Laurie and her husband Richard’s, um, rather large motor home?

Liz: This thing is about as big as my first house was! Can’t believe they make these contraptions with wheels.  At least I know people will get out of the way once they see us coming down the road. Sometimes it feels like we’re the same size as a semi-truck!

Me: At least you have lots of room to move around inside the motor home. That must be nice – much better than a car.

Liz: Oh, that’s for sure. Remember traveling with my kids when they were little to the Grand Canyon in a station wagon. I for sure never want to do that again! I had to rest up when we got back home.

Me: We’ll leave all that driving to Richard. Are you enjoying your trip following Kate around the United States?

Liz: That girl is so sweet! Finally getting some confidence. Sometimes I wonder about you young girls. Don’t you know a woman can do anything a man can? Well, almost if you know what I mean!

Me: You’re right about that. And Kate is learning. It surprised me that she was scared of the motor home at first since she has traveled all over the world.

Liz: That’s the problem! She’s always had someone doing things for her. Now she has to do it on her own. If that won’t build that girl up, nothing else will but I’ve already seen Kate change a whole bunch since we met her. And now she has Brandon. What a sweet boy and good looking too! And he just…”

Me: Oh, let’s not talk about that right now. I have to leave something for the readers to find out on their own. But I agree Brandon seems almost too good to be true. This is changing the subject but I have to ask: aren’t you teaching Kate to crochet?

Liz: Most certainly! Sometimes I feel we don’t teach crafts like these for you young people. Some of you can’t even cook unless you open a can! For goodness sakes!

Me: I agree but I think it’s getting better. I love to crochet so I’m glad you’re teaching Kate.

Liz: She has a ways to go, but she is learning. Hopefully she’ll be able to make a scarf soon. But listen, I’m going inside and take a nap. This old lady needs her beauty sleep.

Me: Ms. Liz, you aren’t that old!

Liz: Honey, I’m 92!

Me: That’s just the new 70.

Liz: Well, I’m still going to get my sleep.

Me: Take care and have fun on your trip.

Liz: Like I said – a rocking chair, a window to watch outside while we travel and some yarn – that makes me a happy, feisty old lady.

I love writing the character of “Liz”. I can so easily imagine my grandmothers in her personality. I hope you enjoyed “meeting” another character from the “Camping in High Heels” series. Look for more “interviews” coming each week!

XOXO,

Miki
