May The Christmas Holiday Festivities Begin!

Well, we have officially moved into the month of holidays! Depending on what you celebrate, December is full of activities. (But before I go any further, make sure to read the “PS” at the bottom of this post!)Holidays, Snowman, Snowmen, Hot Cocoa, Hot Chocolate, Mittens, Scarf, Scarves, Snow, Christmas, Candy, Holidays

I’ve tried to sit down and list the Christmas activities that Jeff and I want to do this year and there are so many that each year it gets more difficult to choose the ones we want to do. Many events happen on the same date! But there are a few things we always do each year:

  1. We go to the Festival of Lights! Here in Charleston, one of our county parks is full of Christmas cheer and a ton of lights from the moment you turn in the park till the moment you leave. The festival is on the list as one the 20 best Holiday light shows in America with over two million twinkling lights.
  2. We go on a Christmas Scavenger Hunt! Jeff and I began this little tradition a few years ago and last year some other family members got in on the fun. I have a list of Christmas displays you have to find by visiting nearby neighborhoods. It is so much fun to search for each item (like a manger scene or Mrs. Claus) and you get to see some terrific displays too!
  3. We go on a Charleston “Sleigh Ride”! No, we don’t have white Christmases here but we do have sleighs. Well, they are actually carriage rides through the streets of downtown Charleston. We sing Christmas carols, have holiday snacks and drinks and wish everyone along the street “Merry Christmas”.
  4. We go to our church’s Christmas Eve Candlelight service. This is one of my most favorite church services of the year.

There are a few other things I like to do too such as get a picture with Santa (yes even at my age!) and visit holiday markets. But with so much to see and do, you have to choose the activities that mean the most to you and your family.

So make that list of fun things to do and check it twice! But most of all, take time to just be in the moment and enjoy the season. And if you see someone you can help this Christmas, please see what you can do to make their holiday special!

Big Hugs!

Miki
