If you have ever been to Key West, Florida, you know that you have to go at least one night to Mallory Square for the Sunset Celebration. I guess you could say it’s a tradition in Key West.
Before I ever visited the Keys for the first time, I’d heard of Mallory Square and how each evening, artisans and performers come together to entertain the people that gather there to watch the sunset along the pier. I really didn’t think it was that big a deal until I got to go and see it for myself.
I instantly fell in love with this lovely place – especially the people selling their wares. This last time I was there I got Emma a special dog collar and usually every trip I come back with ceramic tiles with watercolor paintings on them featuring different areas of the Keys.
Then there are the performers. They do some things that there is no way I’d ever try. Example: Balancing on a unicycle 10’ – 20’ in the air while juggling knives or fire sticks? No Way!
The shopping and watching is just the prelude to finding a great spot to watch the sun as it drops below the horizon. The colors in the sky and the reflection on the water are just breathtaking at times.
So if you ever get to the Keys, make sure to go to Key West and stay for the Sunset Celebration at Mallory Square. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
