Welcome to October! Or shall I say “welcome to the holiday season” even though it’s a bit early! Halloween is only a few weeks away, Thanksgiving not far behind and Christmas will be here before you know it. During this time of year things can get very busy and we miss the “little things”.
What are the “little things”?
With to-do lists a mile long, parties and events nearly every week, shopping for gifts or making them, etc., we sometimes forget to just take time for the small pleasures in life. It’s the simple things such as sleeping in for an extra 15 minutes, sitting in your favorite coffee shop and reading that new book, taking a short walk out in nature and more. I could list many things but I hope you understand what I’m trying to say.
Only one journal prompt!
So instead of several journal prompts this week, I have only one for you: Each day write down a list – as short or as long as you like – about the small pleasures in life that make you smile during the week. Those things that brought joy to your life. Maybe a place you went to for the first time and loved it. A new tea you with a wonderful flavor. Watching your children or grandchildren play. Learning a new craft. Anything that makes your heart sing!
When we focus on the joy and happiness that surrounds us, it helps us physically and mentally for all phases of our life. It improves our relationships. It gives us a sense of grounding and relieves stress. Try this journal practice this week! And if you feel like it, share your “little things” with all of us!
XOXO,
Miki
