Today I was going through my Pinterest Inspiration Board, just reading. When I hit upon this post, it really struck a cord with me.
“It’s the small steps that lead to great things.” This quote is so true and as I thought about the words, I could see that this is what I have been doing for the last 4 to 5 months. But more so over the last 3 weeks.
I’m the type of person that likes to do 50 things all at one time. In my mind I just know that I can get them all done. Instead, I end up being stressed out and nothing getting finished or not the quality of work I know I’m capable of achieving.
So I have changed that around a bit. Right now I have about 4 projects I’m working on and instead of rushing through them, I’m making sure to work on them each day – either a big chunk of time or maybe a few minutes. What’s so crazy cool is that they are getting accomplished without me feeling like I’m going in circles or creating this stress mode in my life that drives me batty.
Perfect example is my art room. I’ve wanted to do a complete makeover in this room where things are more organized but making sure that there is a relaxed beach/bohemian vibe. I also wanted to make sure to create a writing nook space. So I decided that I would work on this room everyday till it was completed. There have been days when I’ve spent an hour or more in there and other times when maybe it was only 5 minutes. But guess what? It’s almost completed and looking so incredible. I actually sat in there this morning and ate my breakfast while looking out the window seeing the river in the distance. Talk about relaxing! Plus now that things are more organized, I can find my craft and art supplies to start creating. That is when I’m not writing! J
I’m using this “small steps” approach in other areas too and seeing progress. It’s a great feeling.
So I encourage everyone to take their “to do” list and take baby steps toward reaching those goals. I know there are times when you have something that might have to be done ASAP. But if you can work it where you can go a bit slower, you’ll see progress with less stress.
