Did you know we have “sleigh” rides here in the South? Yes, there is no snow but we have some very imaginative people around here that make this “sleigh” ride extra fun and special.
Here in Charleston, we have several Carriage companies that give excellent historical tours of our city during the day. But when this time of year rolls around, in the evening, these carriage tours turn into Southern Sleigh Rides!
One of the tour companies, Old South Carriage Company, actually outfits one of their carriages with Christmas lights and decorations. We meet at the barn and enjoy some hot cider, cocoa and Christmas cookies before going on our “sleigh” ride around downtown Charleston. Santa himself guides the “sleigh” through the neighborhoods as we sing Christmas carols and wish everyone we see walking along the sidewalk “Merry Christmas” as we make our way around Charleston.
Jeff and I have done this for several years, making it one of our traditions. Last night was special. Because it was during the week (we usually go on a weekend), we ended up having the “sleigh” all to ourselves with Santa! The weather was chilly but perfect for our ride along the streets with Christmas decorations and lights. We bundled up under a blanket and enjoyed the sites.
After our ride, we toured around more of Charleston, finding more light displays. One, at the College of Charleston, was absolutely beautiful. If you are in the Charleston area, make sure to check it out! But also book a Charleston Southern Sleigh Ride. They are so much fun and will put you in the holiday spirit for sure!
