Another fun activity this time of year is a good old fashion Christmas Parade!
In the Lowcountry of South Carolina, we have at least four different parades. The one that takes place in the city of Mt. Pleasant is even held at night and lights up the streets!
I remember as a little girl how much I loved parades. I think it was the candy they threw out from the passing floats that I liked most of all but to see Santa at the end was the icing on the cake. I participated in a few local parades with my Girl Scout troop when I was older and thought how exciting it was to walk the road, waving to all those lined along the street.
When my daughter was part of a dance troupe, they had great floats each year and the girls learned dance routines that they would perform along the parade route. What was fun for me was walking alongside the girls and watching the fun, both as a spectator and being part of the parade. Plus, I got in some good exercise!
Our city parade was supposed to have taken place last weekend, but we were inundated with rain. Now there is a possibility that the parades this weekend might face the same forecast. Only this time not only are we getting rain but some very cold temperatures as well! Hopefully the following weekend, everyone in our local parades will get to strut their stuff.
If you get a chance, go watch a Christmas parade. They are so festive but what I enjoy most is watching the little children. They are totally fascinated by the floats, people, cars and so much more that pass them by. Their little faces look like they are mesmerized by all the activity.
