It’s A Character Casting Call!

I don’t know how it is for other writers and authors, but I like to imagine or see in my mind exactly what my characters look like. I like to imagine that I’m standing right there beside them as the story progresses. For this reason I sometimes visualize actors and actresses portraying the main characters in my books.

In my first novel, “The Keys to Love” I have to admit that while I was writing Maddy and Jason’s story, I saw my husband and myself. Even at book signings when people asked me about the characters in the book, Jeff will say “I’m Jason” and I have to laugh and agree. This was my first book and since I was basing it on a part of my life, I really couldn’t see anyone else in those roles.

In “Forever in the Keys”, Abbey and Zach were easy. For Abbey I saw actress Britt Robertson and Channing Tatum as Zach. When I put their pictures side by side, they just seemed to fit the personalities of Abbey and Zach.

For “Run Away to the Keys”, I had another couple that I immediately saw in the two main roles. Since the character of Skyler was ten years younger than her love interest, Garrett, this was a bit more interesting. But as I was writing, I could see Alexandra Daddario as Skyler and Joe Manganiello as Garrett. I even envision Joe as Garrett when writing “Forever in the Keys” since he was Abbey’s neighbor.

As for my series “Camping in High Heels”, there have always been two characters that I have seen from the very first book: Margot Robbie as Kate Palmer and Ian Somerholder as Brandon Anderson. Again, once I saw their photos side by side, they seemed to be the right fit for the characters.

If you are a writer, do you envision your character with a lot of detail or use pictures? I love being able to go to the Internet, put in a few physical traits and come up with images. It seems like I always find someone who looks just like the person I’m writing about. I’ll usually copy the picture to my character file and when I need some help in description, I’ll look up the photo for help.

If you get a chance to search for pictures of the actors and actresses named, let me know if you think they match the descriptions of the characters in the books. I would love to know what you think!

Big hugs!

Which actors would you like to see play the characters in my novels?
