Is It Time To Start Spring Cleaning?

[Sassy_Social_Share]

I’m going through a major decluttering and “simplifying my life” project. I mean, I’m looking at everything – mentally and physically – and seeing what changes I can make to simplify my life.

Spring Cleaning, Linens, Towels, House, Home, Cleaning, OrganizingAs I’ve told you before, Jeff and I have been decluttering our physical space for a while. We go through things then sell, giveaway or trash what we don’t need or isn’t useable. You’d think by now we would have nothing left to declutter but each round (this is #3) we find more stuff. But this means we are getting down to the items we really want to keep.

I’ve found through this process that removing the clutter physically helps remove some of my mental clutter. I’ve read and heard that when your things are organized, in their place and you only have those things in your space that make you happy, it helps mentally but honestly I didn’t believe it till now. The more items we remove and find ways to simplify, the more it helps with the mental stresses that come our way.

Right now all the rage is the book “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up” by Marie Kondo. I’ve read it and loved some of her suggestions but not all of them resonated with me. For about nine months I tried the “filing” method of my clothes but it didn’t make me feel happier for sure! It’s probably just me but stacking my clothing in drawers is fine and makes me happy. But I would suggest a read through this book then you take away the ideas that will work for your lifestyle.

I’m hoping in the near future to put together, in written format, the organizing and routines system that Jeff and I follow. It is such a mash up of several different ideologies but it’s working for us so it may help you. I think the first and foremost thing is to do what works for YOU – not someone else.

So here is to Spring Cleaning! I hope to have mine done before Spring actually arrives.

Big Hugs!
