Have you ever had or should I say have the desire to write a book? Whether your idea is a novel or non-fiction piece, do you want to see a book in your hands with your name on the front?
As you have heard my story before, I had no vision of being an author. The desire wasn’t there for me till one day I let my imagination roam about an idea and now I’m writing novel #10 plus my first non-fiction book! Maybe the idea for writing has always been swirling around in the deep recesses of my mind and decided to suddenly pop to the surface. I don’t know, but I’m glad it did.
I ask you this question is because every time I’m at a book signing, an author event, or someone finds out I’m a published author, they tell they have this idea for a book but they are scared to write it. Or they have already written it but don’t know what to do next. Or they have it written, it’s edited but now they are afraid of rejection. I hear so many things but my answer is basically the same: WRITE IT, PUBLISH IT! If the idea is in your heart, someone is meant to read it – even if it’s only one person!
As far as the fear that surrounds the writing and publishing process? Yep, it’s there but you just push through it. It’s tough at times but there are also many rewards. For me it has been the people that have told me how they enjoyed my novels and it helps them escape after a hard day. Or how a character or scene made them laugh and put a smile on their face. Or how they can relate to a character on a personal level.
It makes me happy to I know I’ve helped others and made them smile. I’m glad I get to share my imagination and quirkiness with you! And if something negative comes along like a bad review, it’s just someone else’s opinion and everyone is entitled to their own. It doesn’t bother me like it used to – I still love them anyway!
So write that book, poem, song – whatever – and share it with the world!
