A few years ago I remember the day I got my sketch pad out, determined to learn how to draw people. I had tried before but this time armed with a YouTube video for guidance and a little practice, I just knew I would soon be drawing people that would actually look like a person and not a stick figure! LOL!
Anyway, I watched the video and just couldn’t get into it. I look at what I had drawn and just sighed. Then I started connecting lines, drawing circles, making dots, lining squares and found that I was relaxing. I was doodling and loving it.
Over the next few days, I researched doodling and zentangling. I was AMAZED by the amount of people for whom this is their primary way of drawing art. Some of the pieces I saw were simply amazing and I knew that I had found how I wanted to draw. It was completely out of the box and totally different than my original intention but I love making these abstract designs.
I’ve been drawing since I was a child but never studied it consistently. But now I wanted to learn everything I could about doodling or zentangle, which is what I like to call it. The reason I like that word is because when I zentangle I feel so relaxed. I don’t follow any sort of rules and just let my imagination guide me.
Lately, since things have been busy, I’ve not been able to zentangle as much as I would like. Here is one of my first zentangles once I found out about this wonderful way to draw. My zentangle drawings have progressed and I have won a few awards for my pictures. And it is something I definitely want to start doing again.
Is there any creative pursuit that helps you relax? I have several and find when I make time for them, it’s a wonderful treat.
Big Hugs!
Miki
