Be A Hometown Tourist!
At least once a year, if not more, my husband and I make a point of being a tourist in our hometown of Charleston, SC. It is usually during the holidays when decorations are everywhere, and I often mix it in with some shopping of course!
This is not a new idea but one worth giving some thought. I’ve talked to many people who have done this but maybe only once, thinking there wasn’t anything more to offer. But with different events happening depending on the season, you can very easily be a hometown tourist several times a year.
We have a bit of an advantage with Charleston being a very historical town. I’ve lived here since I was three years old and I still seem to learn something new about our city every time we take tours, walk about town reading plaques and guidebooks about Charleston’s past.
I’m sure that the town you live in, whether large or small, would make the perfect place to play tourist. If you happen to live out in the country, find a city close by then enjoy the sights and sounds of the town.
I have to say social media helps when it comes to finding new events taking place. For example, this weekend is the Charleston Hot Air Balloon Festival. Hopefully, depending on the weather, I might be able to take a balloon ride – how exciting! If it weren’t for social media, I might not have seen this event.
So seek out those cool places, bring a picnic with extra snacks and have fun exploring your city. Enjoy!
