Ok, so how can you not have fun on the beach? Especially one with powdery white sand beneath your feet and aqua water to gaze upon? Ahhh! Then add a birthday celebration too? Wow!
But this wasn’t a birthday party for me. It was for my best friend, Donna Gauntlett, who lives in Sarasota, FL.
Donna and I met via a Facebook group in January of 2015. I was amazed at the art she posted, with its whimsical style and bright colors. I sent her a message to see if we might be able to have a conversation on her use of Photoshop. Boy was I so nervous to write that note! I didn’t know this person on the other side of my computer screen but I stepped up and pressed “Send”. I thought that the worse that could happen is that she would say “no” or “I don’t have time right now”. But that certainly wasn’t the case.
After Donna responded to my message and said we could chat the very next day, more nerves set in. I even wrote out my questions in advance, trying to sound as if I knew what I was doing. I figured we would be on the phone about 15-30 minutes and wanted to make sure I used my time wisely.
Well, that call ended up being a 4 HOUR CONVERSATION! We instantly hit if off, finding so much common ground. We talked about our goals, sharing personal details of family and so much more. Oh, and we did talk about Photoshop (and she still helps me!).
It wasn’t long before we were close friends and became each other’s accountability partners. We both wanted to write our own books and each day we checked in to make sure we were staying on track. By October, we each had our own published books in our hands! Then in November of that same year, 11 months after our first conversation, our families spent Thanksgiving together at my house in Charleston, SC. All because I dared to take a chance and ask someone for help.
Two weeks ago was my first trip to Donna’s home in Florida and only our fourth time together in person in the last three years. We had an amazing time! Beautiful beaches, quaint restaurants, a girl’s lunch and meeting so many people I had only talked to before through FaceTime calls. I loved every minute of it!
I tell you all this for a few reasons. Is there something you would like to do but have that fear to go for it? Almost everyone I know can answer this question with a huge “YES”. If my story is any help, I implore you to go after what you seek. Had I not reached out to Donna about a few simple questions concerning Photoshop, I wouldn’t have the amazing best friend I have now. Plus she was there to push me forward during the process of publishing that first book that has now turned into 7 novels with #8 due out this month! What a wonderful gift.
So go for it! Ask for it! Do it! There is so much out there for each and every one of us. Plus you never know who you will be helping along the way just by you going for your dreams.
Love & Hugs!
