Happy Earth Day everyone! This is that special day where we take a bit of time to take care of our environment.
The first Earth Day was on April 22, 1970 – 48 years ago today! Since this time, many things have occurred that launched the environmental movement. You can read more here at earthday.org.
Today, my husband and I did our part, which we enjoyed. Since I love the beach so much, we went to my favorite spot: Folly Beach. Armed with gloves and a trash bag, we picked up trash on a small stretch of beach. I was amazed how much we collected and we didn’t walk that far! If people would just take a little extra time to put trash where it belongs so it can be disposed of properly, it would be a HUGE help to the environment.
This is especially true when it comes to the plastics in our environment. Plastics are causing monumental damage to our oceans and the creatures that live there. Like plastic straws that are stuck in sea turtle noses or plastic rings wrapped around other sea creatures, shore birds and more.
Please just take a moment to discard trash properly. You might even consider cutting out just one plastic item from everyday use. All these small steps lead to great change.
Once again – Happy Earth Day and sending you Big Hugs!
