Not too long ago someone asked me how I kept track of my projects, ideas and to do’s. The question came after I had proceeded to tell them how many projects I had going on and that I had mismanaged my time just a little bit (well, really A LOT!) by agreeing to do a few too many things. But thank goodness for the tips I share below because they are helping me stay sane!
Here are four things I do to I keep myself on track:
- I use my phone CONSTANTLY! Thank goodness for apps like Evernote and Voice Memos. If I’m at a place where I can quickly type or dictate my notes into Evernote, it’s a wonderful way to have those notes all synced to your devices (I’m an Apple girl so everything is on my MacBook, iPad and iPhone). Once I’m back home or where I need to be, I can go over them. When I’m on the road I use my Voice Memos app with my Air Pods. I have even outlined several books on my many trips to and from the beach.
- Believe it or not, I have two calendars: I use Google Calendar that stays updated on all my devices but I also have a paper planner. My Google Calendar is great because I usually have my phone or iPad with me. My paper planner stays home because it is really a planner and a journal at the same time. I use it to make sure I have appointments written down but the rest of the planner I decorate and record events from the day. It’s a way to be creative and journal my day.
- A Tickler File. Yes, the good ole tickler file still works wonders for me. If we have prescriptions to be filled, a bill needs to be paid on a particular date, etc., that piece of paper goes behind the date its due. It may to an old way of doing things but it still works for me.
- Routines! Have no idea where I would be without routines. I have a daily, a weekly and a monthly routine. I then have the lists separated: one for my personal life and another for my business. Even though they are in Evernote with checkboxes beside each task, I pretty much have them remembered by now. But when I decide to change things up (like I’m getting ready to), using a checklist in Evernote is a perfect way for me to stay on track.
Now I can’t say that I’m always organized – far from it. But these 4 little things help me stay on track especially when I have so many irons in the fire like I do right now. So now I ask you: how do you stay organized? Any tips for me???
