Everyone deserves a little TLC.
I usually don’t talk about my personal issues with the illnesses I have but today I wanted to share just a bit. Mainly because I know there are others that deal with a chronic invisible illnesses everyday.
Today I’m really struggling with a neck, shoulder and back issue. One of my sub-diagnoses is Severe Fibromyalgia. I’ve done wonderfully handling the ups and downs of this medical issue for over 20 years now but lately it has been causing me more challenges than I care to mention. Today is the perfect example.
I woke in extreme pain and tried to just breath through it like I always do. But today I guess my body said “No way. I just want a break.” You see, I usually push through the pain and only tell 2 or 3 people what is going on. The reason I do that is in case I have to go seek further medical treatment and I might not be able to talk to the doctor. In my attempt to push through this pain today, I might have complicated things just a bit.
The reason I tell you this is because I hear the following all the time which in reality is a true compliment: “But you don’t look sick! You look great!” It really does make me feel good to know that but inside, the pain or other issues I deal with everyday can be intense to the point I just don’t want to do anything. This summer has been especially challenging.
I just want to say to all those going through similar circumstances with invisible illnesses to make sure to take care of yourself. Don’t worry about what others think (this is something I have to work on each day). If we don’t take care of ourselves, we only burden our family and friends when they have to take care of us which is not fair to them. So grant yourself a little grace and some TLC. I am!
