I love this quote! It has a lot of meaning for everyone because there are times in life when we allow others to take away our happiness – our sparkle.
Have you ever been in a situation where you are so happy or excited about someone or something? Then someone comes along and says something that makes you doubt everything you are doing and thinking? Maybe this hasn’t happened to you but I’ll raise my hand because it has happened to me.
Since I was a little girl, I’ve always had this desire to please other people. I can’t really pinpoint where this line of thought came from but I always felt that if I made other people happy then I would always be happy. This kept me for a long time from going after the things in life that made me excited. Kept me from goals that I felt that I was supposed to accomplish and wanted to go after. It kept me away from sharing the gift and talents I have because if someone said one negative comment about a project or an idea I had, I immediately went into self-doubt mode. I let them dull my sparkle.
Now that I’m older, I’m getting so much better about letting people’s comments and remarks just slide right off of me. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion but I CHOOSE whether it affects me or not. I wish sometimes that I had been like this when I was younger. The things I might have accomplished – I can’t imagine! Or maybe I might not be where I am today. So instead of looking backwards, I stay in the present moment and plan for the future.
So if someone is trying to steal your joy or “sparkle” just remember: you have the power to choose if they do or if they don’t.
Don’t let anyone dull your sparkle!
Big hugs to all!
