Do You Keep A Journal??? If Not, Give It A Try!

Journal, Journal, Journal! Did I say journal??? Lately it seems you can’t read a social media post, read an article or listen to a podcast without someone mentioning the word “journal”. The consensus out there is that we need to keep a journal for so many reasons – at least that’s what the “experts” say. So, I ask: Do you have a journal you write in everyday?

I remember as a little girl then a teenager, I had my “secret diary” where I kept my very personal thoughts and feeling on paper. When we would go shopping, I would always go to the office supply department of stores and seek out my next favorite notebook. Those books are tucked away in a special place and from time to time, I’ll read them, laughing and remembering. These days I journal differently. Sometimes it’s voice memos on my phone that I transcribe later. Maybe I’ll draw a picture or take a photo that gets glued onto a page in my journal. Or I’ll write in a small notebook I carry in my handbag that I later move to my larger book.

But my favorite way to journal are using my planner. I saw this idea in early 2019 and it intrigued me. I had always used a planner for just planner my day and adding to lists that seemed a mile long. Then I happened on a photo on Instagram of someone who had taken a weekly spread in a planner and had written their thoughts about the day. They they added stickers, colored markers, Washi tape, photos and more. I LOVED it! I immediately started on my own memory planner/journal journey. It’s so much fun and a great way to tap into your creativity while you are putting your thoughts on paper.

Lately I’ve been dabbling in digital planner and journaling. I love my iPad Pro and it makes it so easy to try this new technique. I’m still learning and hopefully I’ll be able to share some of my journal spreads later. But I need to confess I still keep my paper notebook around for notes, ideas and details I want to remember about the day especially as I tackle health issues and plan out business projects. I think I’ll always be a hybrid: a digital/paper planner and journaler and that is just fine with me plus a bunch of others like me out in the social media world.

    a journal, why not give it a try? I honestly think once you try it and get into the habit, you are going to love looking back on your entries for memories and sometimes some clarity about life.
