I can definitely say “Yes” to this question! Distraction can sure be a problem for me at times though once I finally get started on a task I usually stay focused. But there are times when something comes my way, capturing my attention to the point that I forget what I was doing! LOL!
The problem is that there are just so many things I want to do. I know that is the creative side of me. I like new craft projects, new DIY things to try, finding new ideas from the sane to the wacky. As a matter of fact, my computer is cluttered right now with so many things I’ve saved to try, read, or do!
To combat this habit, I like to remove as many distractions as I can when I’m working on a big project such as writing my novels. A great example is that I have a manuscript that is due to my editor by the 20th of this month. So I have broke down what I have to do over the coming days. I’ve already talked to my family and told them of what I’m going to do so they know why I might not be able to go somewhere or do something even though I would love to join them – I’m very blessed with a understanding husband! Then I make sure my writing time is planned out each day with breaks. I even fix my food for the day first thing in the morning so all I have to do is take out my meal, heat it up and I’m not spending a lot of time cooking during my peak productivity time.
I know all this sounds rigid, maybe even extreme, but to accomplish some big projects, I have to pull out all the stops to make sure I get things done. This is what keeps me from getting distracted – having a plan in place.
So do you get distracted easily? If so, what do you do to stay focused? I would love to know – all tips are welcomed!
Sending out those good vibes to all!
