I absolutely love going to author events! I’ve been to many by now and I get to catch up with old friends and make new ones. This past weekend I went to see Mary Alice Monroe along with her friends, authors Patti Callahan Henry and Lisa Wingate. They were wonderful! What made this event even more special was that my best friend, Donna Gauntlett from Sarasota, was able to come along with me.
Mary Alice hosts this event once a year at the Wild Dunes Resort on the Isle of Palms, near Charleston, SC. I attended last year and heard stories from authors Mary Kay Andrews and Nancy Thayer. And this year was just as special!
Each author had her own special story with Mary Alice asking Patti and Lisa questions about their current best selling novels: Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate and Becoming Mrs. Lewis by Patti Callahan. The story of their journeys to write both of these fabulous books was inspiring and fascinating. Though Mary Alice didn’t speak as much about her own books, her novel The Beach House, was released as a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie last year on the Hallmark Channel.
Being an author myself, I always like to go to these events. Not only to meet the authors themselves, but to meet new friends and readers. When you share the love of a certain genre of books, meeting with others that are also reading those novels is very special.
If you get a chance to attend your favorite author’s event, I encourage you to go. Not only will you get to meet them and chat, but probably come away with a few new friends.
